This indie strategy name illustrates why I like strategy games so much and why many of my favourite titles won’t ever gain mainstream acceptance. Eador: Experts of the Broken World comes with an adamantium skeleton of a stunning design buried beneath the pale, unappealing flesh of inferior technical execution.
As an immortal Master, your goal is to conquer the shards of property that float in the disorderly void till you command enough to piece together a world of your own. This metagame creates a fine narrative framework for assaulting a collection of randomly generated 4X maps. On each, you employ heroes and armies for them to direct, build up your stronghold and outlying provinces, and dominate the shard through magic and martial force.
Every hero can wield godlike power, but achieving that standing necessitates extensive adventuring. The provinces that make up a shard are full of ancient ruins, dank crypts, along with other locations full of hostile monsters. Clearing those lairs is often more important than conquering new lands, like the treasures they hold fuel your war machine with solid things and large influxes of money and experience.
Multiplayer unsurprisingly has its share of bugs as well, but Eador is such a slow game to begin with that I can’t imagine the degree of patience needed to perform considerably multiplayer in the first location. The barebones implementation here does Nothing to deal with pacing or downtime, so I can not suggest it.
